Obituary for Chase

Edward Prather Chase, 89, passed away Sunday, August 23, 1999. Mr. Chase was born December 16, 1909 in Fresno, CA, the son of Edward Tilden and Lenna May Prather Chase. He was raised in Albuquerque and received his AB degree from Washington State College, and his LL.B degree from the University of Southern California. In 1934, he married Marion Alice Chase of California and returned to New Mexico where he was admitted to the New Mexico bar. In 1941, he was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court bar. From 1941 to 1944, he served as Attorney General for New Mexico under Governor Clyde Tingley. In private practice he was associated with the Chase, Dunleavy and Morton Law Firm in Albuquerque. He was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, St. John Episcopal Cathedral, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple. Survivors include his two daughters, Sally C. White of Albuquerque and Marion Alice Ratliff and husband, Max of Artesia; grandchildren, Rick White and Walter White III of Albuquerque, Teddi Stella of Houston, Jennifer Waugh of Tennessee, and Llana Coffman of Oklahoma; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Ann Rounthwaito of Seattle, WA; and his brother, William Chase of California. A Masonic Memorial service will take place on Friday, August 27, 2:00 p.m., at Temple Lodge #6, 3801 Osuna NE.
