Obituary for Montano

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday August 23, 1999

Ernest Martinez Montano, a child and inheritor of our Savior, Jesus Christ, son of Jose and Anita Montano, husband of Mela, Daddy to Gloria Ann Clute, Isidro (Sid) Ernest Montano, Esther Mary Vera, Angeline (Angie) Nerline Carbajal, Marilyn Pauline Jaramillo, Daniel (Danny) Lawrence Montano, and Cassandra (Sandy) Nadine Montano, left earth and arrived in Heaven on August 22, 1999--he was 72. Ernie was born and raised in Magdalena, NM. He was a self-taught man of many talents; to mention a few, he was a former police officer, mechanic, builder, roofer, plumber, and a maker of cabinets and furniture. He had a soft walk, a gentle demeanor, and a kind and compassionate spirit. Ernest whom adored his 12 grandchildren, Michael, Tiffanie, Kelly and Matthew Clute, Alissa, Cynthia and Jennifer Lynn Montano, John and Shannon Barba, J.Lea R. Vera, Brian Carbajal and Taylar Jaramillo, prayed that they would always seek and walk with the Lord--and his eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Dylan, Trenton, Jonathan, Nichole, Natasha, Danielle, and a yet to be known grandson, he stood before them as a giant of the man he was. Ernest also leaves behind two sisters, Anita Carrillo of Norwalk, CA, Frances Sanchez of Los Lunas; and a brother, Lino Montano of Albuquerque; his daughter-in-law, Evelyn Montano; his two sons-in-law, Dan Clute and Delbert Jaramillo; four sisters-in-law, Betty Montano, Onice Montano, Clorinda Montano, and Rita Montoya; three brothers-in-law, Santiago Carrillo, Eloy Sanchez and Fidencio Montoya. His legacy also lives on through his nieces and nephews to whom he was a surrogate father to many. Willie Chavez, Michael Clute, Matthew Clute, Brian Carbajal, John Barba and Dick Carbajal were honored to act as pallbearers. As we stood looking out at the horizon and shouted--"There he goes"--on the other side stood Jesus and His mighty Angels exclaiming--"Here he comes." There will be a visitation on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main, Belen.
