Obituary for Dyer

Edward Lawson Dyer, M.D., 87, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 6, 1999. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Louise, in 1991. A loving father to one son, John Dyer and wife, Annese; three daughters, Jane Blackburn, Mary Schalnus and husband, Jerry and Alice Springer and husband, Steve. Also surviving are his two brothers, Bob Dyer and Jack Dyer. He left the rich blessing of a godly Christian heritage to his 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dr. Dyer was born on November 19, 1911 in Anderson, IN, to John and Alice Dyer. He decided at a very young age that he would become a doctor. Dr. Dyer earned a degree in chemistry from Northwestern University in 1934 and then graduated from Case Western Reserve Medical School, Cleveland, OH in 1938. He loved being a Family General Practitioner and always said,"We did it all...broken bones, delivered babies, surgery and sometimes, just sympathy". In his 50 years of practice, he touched thousands of lives with his gentle, caring spirit and generous compassion for everyone, especially those who just needed a wonderful friend. Dr. Dyer served his country for four years in WWII as an Army Doctor in locations all over Europe. He practiced medicine in Texas and Colorado, retiring in Albuquerque in 1988. Services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Rev. Jack Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Dyer's grandsons, John Blackburn, David Blackburn, Paul Blackburn, Dan Dyer, Jay Schalnus, Sam Schalnus, Jason Springer and Stephen Springer. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A special thank you to Sandia Hospice for such loving care and support.
