Scott Lee Crutchfield May 29, 1971-September 28, 1999Scott Crutchfield, age 28, died Tuesday, September 28, 1999, following a brave fight against a brain tumor. He is survived by his wife, Alexandra Crutchfield and his infant son, Adam Wesley Crutchfield, both of Austin, Texas; parents, Charles and Karen Crutchfield of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Melissa Crutchfield of Dallas; and grandmothers, Ruth Jenkins of Concord, NC, and Benja Lee Crutchfield of Albuquerque, NM. Visitation will be at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, Austin, Texas, on Thursday evening, September 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The service will be held at University United Methodist Church, Austin, Texas, on Friday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m. Scott was born in Ruidoso, NM, and lived with his family in Odessa, Hobbs, Carlsbad and El Paso. A graduate of Periman High School, Odessa, Texas, he was a National Merit Scholar and active in the band. He attended the 1987 Texas Governor's School and the Research Science Institute in Washington, D.C. After completing his B.S.E. degree at Duke University (1993), he earned his Master's degree in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texaa, Austin (1996). He worked for Motorola's M-Core division until the time of this death. Scott loved his family, his church, and his many friends. He and Alexandra Lynn Maynard met at Duke University and were married July 31, 1993, in Greensboro, NC. Active in the United Methodist Church his entire life, he was involved in the Wesley Fellowship at Duke. At University United Methodist Church he was a member of the choir, the Odyssey Class, and Disciple Bible study. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, travel and foreign languages and was an avid fan of Duke basketball.
