Obituary for Varney

Mr. Lawrence L. Varney died Sunday in Albuquerque at the age of 70. Mr. Varney was a decorated veteran, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, and American Legion Post 13. Mr. Varney retired from the City of Albuquerque after 20 years of service with the SunTran Bus Company. Mr. Varney is survived by his son, Donald W. Varney and wife, Ann; daughter, Debbie Maldonado and husband, Phillip; brother, Francis Varney; and two grandchildren, Phillip and Jennifer Maldonado. Funeral services for Mr. Varney will be held on Wednesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where the Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Visitation for Mr. Varney will be held on Tuesday, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., in the mortuary chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening, 7:30 p.m., at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
