Joel R. Martinez, 38, a beloved and devoted father, son, brother and friend was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 12, 1999. Joel was born on December 10, 1960 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving parents, Joe J. and Audrey Martinez of Albuquerque; his children, Derrick, Matthew and Stephanie Martinez of Rio Rancho; one brother, Victor Martinez and wife, Joyce of Albuquerque; two sisters, Theresa Santistevan and husband, Ken, Erika Cano and husband, Joe both of Albuquerque; and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, on the corner of 8th and Iron, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9504 North 4th Street. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Steve Martinez, Joe Cano, Ken Santistevan, Eddie Barron, John Tafoya and Gilbert Martinez. Honorary bearers will be Victor Martinez, Dean Martinez, Julian Maestas and Ronnie Lucero. Funeral services are in the care and direction of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave., S.W. 243-5222.
