Obituary for Lacour

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday August 14, 1999

Our Heavenly Father called Mary Leola LaCour home on August 13, 1999. She was born May 29, 1916, in Cloutierville, Louisiana, to Jean Gracien and Gertrudes Couty. Mary moved to Albuquerque in the early fifties with her husband Emile and, at the time, five children. She had six more children and raised them in the Martineztown neighborhood. She was met in heaven by her parents; firstborn son, Emile (Sonny); six brothers; one sister and her best friend since childhood, Aunt Mag. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Emile; her children, Robert and wife, Marianne, Mary Alice, Michael, Tony and wife, Liz, Tommy and wife, Debra, Laura and husband, Kevin, Yvonne, Carmen, Leonard and wife, Gloria, and David and wife, Beatrice; 34 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and her children's friends that loved her as a Mom. She was proud to be a devout Roman Catholic, a mother, grandmother, and a full-blooded Cajun woman. Whether you called her Mama, Grandma, Aunt Leola, Mary, or Mrs. LaCour, you know that she loved the Lord very much, had a great sense of humor, and a big heart. She often took in neighbors, her children's friends, or anyone that needed help in any way. If you are one of those persons, please stop now and thank God for bestowing her presence upon us. She was truly one of His angels. Mama knew she was going to her mansion in heaven, and looked forward to being in the presence of God and Our Savior, Jesus Christ. She would not want you to be sad at her passing on. She is playing her fiddle in God's Cajun band. Sonny accompanies her on the accordion, Old Papa and Old Mama, her brothers and sister playing backup, and Aunt Mag tapping her foot to the music. We will miss her, but we take comfort in the Word of God which says,"To be absent from the body is to present with the Lord." Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 16, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at San Ignacio Church. Salazar & Son Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
