Obituary for Peterson

Richard"Doc" L. Peterson, D.V.M., 67, a resident of Santa Fe since 1969, died Saturday, July 31, 1999. He was born in Webster, South Dakota, on January 28, 1932, the son of Elta Laughlin and Theodore Peterson. He married Karen Lou Howard on February 15, 1958. His sister, Jeanne Peterson preceded him in death, in February 1963. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1955 in the Mule Corps and as a Medical Technician. He graduated from Colorado State University at Ft. Collins, Colorado in 1963 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He established the Solana Veterinary Clinic in 1969, followed by the St. Francis Animal Clinic. He was an active member of the Veterinary community, acting as a lobbyist in the state legislature. He was awarded the Veterinarian of the Year in 1989 for his efforts. He was an avid fly fisherman and would recommend you use a bead-head nymph #14 at Stone Lake. He is survived by his three children, Rebecca L. Peterson of San Miguel de Allende, GTO, Mexico, Geoffrey A. Peterson (Shannon Marshall) currently of El Paso, TX, and Strom H. Peterson (Maria Montalvo) of Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 1920 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505. Interment took place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 4 at 2:00 p.m. followed by an open mike memorial happy hour at Tiny's Lounge, next to St. Francis Animal Clinic. Family and many friends, especially those at table #21, will sadly miss him.
