Obituary for Torres

Alvarado Salazar (A.S.) Torres, resident of Belen, was born on January 18, 1911, to Juan and Maria Salazar and passed away on August 1, 1999. Mr. Torres was predeceased by Helen, his wife of 53 years, in 1990; and by his daughter, Carmen, in 1964. Mr. Torres is survived by his daughters, Bessie Aragon of Albuquerque, Frances Perotti of Belen, Lorraine Garcia of Belen, and Mary Ellen Pruess of Lakewood, CO; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Rose Moya of Los Lunas; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Torres was a member of the Tome Land Grant, New Mexico Locksmith Assoc., Knights of Columbus, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Belen Catholic Church. He retired from Sandia National Labs after 21 years of service. He then owned and operated Torres Key Shop for 25 years while maintaining a Spanish/English translation service. He wrote two books on Spanish elementary education. Cremation has already taken place and Mass will be celebrated at the Belen Catholic Church on August 5, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
