Obituary for Romero

Pete A. Romero, 70, of Albuquerque, died Monday, August 2, 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital following an illness. Mr. Romero was born November 18, 1928 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Pablo Romero and the former Eloisa Fajardo. He was reared and attended schools at San Ignacio and Santa Rosa. He married Maria M. Ulibarri on January 2, 1957 in Santa Rosa. Pete served with the U.S. Army for two years before enlisting with the U.S. Marines where he served an additional 20 years. He was honorably discharged and retired in 1972. Following his retirement, he made his home in Albuquerque where he worked for several years at Hot Suns Service Station, he later worked for David Otero, a painting contractor, and also worked for Orona Real Estate Agency. He was a member of American Legion Post #99 in Albuquerque and a longtime member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. Pete enjoyed boxing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Nathan Romero, on August 29, 1993; a brother, Santiago Romero; along with an infant brother and sister. Survivors include his wife, Maria M. Romero of Albuquerque; two sons, Gilbert Ulibarri and wife, Shirley, Phillip Romero and fiancee, Lupe Lucero; four daughters, Rose Mary and husband, John Flores, Linda and husband, Michael Gutierrez, all of Albuquerque, Sylvia Romero and Phillip of Los Lunas, and Eva Romero of Clewiston, FL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Reyna, Francesca, Kurt, Kelly, Ryna, and Candace; three great-grandchildren, Paul, Lorenzo, and Camille. Other survivors are two sisters, Toni and husband, Florentino Padilla of Albuquerque, Lydia and husband, Wilfred Chavez; a brother, Johnny Romero and wife, Fern; and a sister-in-law, Frances Romero, all of Santa Rosa."In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing when you look at the sky at night." Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Santa Rosa. A second Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 4, from St. Rose of Lima Parish in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 1999, from the church with Father Sotero A. Sena, Celebrant of the Mass. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Darryl Padilla, Ricky Chavez, Michael Romero, Louie Romero, Tony Ulibarri, Steve Bonney, Kurt Flores, and Patrick Urban. Honorary pallbearers will include Danny Bonney and Robert Bonney. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S.
