Obituary for Dominguez

Raul D. Dominguez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, 75 who passed away and went to be with his Lord on July 4, 1999. Raul was born September 7, 1923 the son of Ralph and Guadalupe Darwood-Caro Dominguez in Wilmington, California. As a youth, Raul was one of the most accomplished athletes in southern California. Overcoming childhood polio, he became an allstate athlete in several sports including football, gymnastics, baseball, and swimming. After serving in the US Army in WW II, he graduated from Northern Arizona State University, achieving the highest in academic honors and was a member of the Blue Key and Epsilon Pi Tau National and International Honor Societies. He received his Civil Service Commission in 1960 and served until his retirement. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital where he served as Chief of Professional Administrative Branch in Albuquerque and had a distinguished medical career as a rehabilitation therapist. Raul was an active member of the LULAC Council 8020 for 16 years. During this time he held the positions of council Vice President and District Director. Because of the many years of support to education and the community, there is an annual LULAC educational scholarship awarded in his honor. Raul was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Emily. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Christina (Martinez) Dominguez; four sons, Kevin, Orae Paul, Ronald and his fiancee, Patricia Herrera, and Roland and his former wife, Carol; three daughters, Stephanie Coleman and husband Allen, Rebecca Long and husband James, Renee Garcia and husband Andrew; ten grandchildren, Monica and Dennis Romero, David and Jessica Dominguez, Adriana, Jordan and Grant Long, Desiree Casaus, Nathan Garcia and Sarah Dominguez; and two great-grandchildren, Celina Torres and Vanessa Romero. Also surviving are his brother, Manuel and wife Helen of Chino, CA, Ralph, Jr. and wife Evelia of Ontario, CA; two sisters, Jennie Felix and Sophie Huerta and husband Louis, all of Buena Park, CA. Rual will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends and acquaintances. A Visitation will be held this evening, Wednesday;, July 7, 1999 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Pallbearers will be Allen Coleman, James Long, Andrew Garcia, Dennis Romero, David Dominguez, and Steve Huerta. Military honors will be provided by the DAV Veterans Honor Guard #3 of Albuquerque. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, Rio Rancho.
