Obituary for Carnes

Col. Sam A. Carnes, U.S.A.F. (Ret.), 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Sunday, June 27, 1999. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Charlotte B. Carnes of Albuquerque; daughter, Cynthia Carnes of Corrales; son, Sam A. Carnes Jr. and wife, Nancy of Knoxville, TN; grandson, James H. Wall Jr. and wife, Chandra of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Suzanne O'Neill and husband, Bill of Albuquerque, Charlotte Smith and husband, Doug of Overland Park, KS, and Cindy M. Carnes of Knoxville, TN; great-grandson, Christopher Wall; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Wall, both of Rio Rancho. Col. Carnes was preceded in death by his brothers, John P. Carnes and James J. Carnes III. He was a veteran of WWII, having served for 27 years in the U.S. Air Force an an administrative officer in the Pacific and C.B.I. Theaters, retiring in 1961. After his retirement, he was associated with the American Automobile Association. Col. Carnes was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Lyle A. Reece officiating. Private interment of cremains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 411 Broadway SE.
