Obituary for Cordova

Frank Cordova, 77, a lifelong resident of Belen, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, May 2, 1999. Frank was born June 17, 1921 to Agapito and Dominga Cordova of Abeytas, NM. He married Agapita Chavez on November 20, 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from November 1940 until January 1947 during WWII. He earned several medals, ribbons and Insignia, which included American Defense (One Star), Asiatic Pacific (Thirteen Stars), American Area, Victory Philippine Liberation (One Star), and Good Conduct. After he received an honorable discharge, he owned and operated his own auto service business. The first location was at 1300 South Main St. Seven years later, a new gas station was built at 1010 South Main, known as Frank's Auto service. The business was in operation from September 1960 until he retired in April 1983. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, tending his garden, and keeping his yard neat. He and Agapita enjoyed going on short vacations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agapito and Dominga Cordova; brothers, Antonio (Tony) Cordova of Barstow, CA and Augustine Barajas of Sabinal. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Agapita Cordova; daughter, Frances Chavez and husband, Bennie, Susan Chavez and husband, Herminio, Sunday Cordova and her husband, Ernest, Paulette Lopez and husband ,Charles, Michelle Chavez and husband, Robert, all of Belen, Yolanda Holguin and husband, Ruben of Silver City; sons, Michael P. Cordova and wife, Corrie, Anthony Cordova, Paul Cordova and wife, Janet of Barstow, CA; sisters, Albita Chavez, Vicky Romero, Nila Romero, Kathy Baca, Mary Bachicha, Cecilia Salazar; four brothers, Salo Cordova, Gilbert Cordova, Jose Barajas, and Eloy Barajas. Frank is also survived by 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at Romero Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Pallbearers will include his grandsons, Kevin Chavez, Joel Chavez, Matthew Lopez, Reuben Holguin, Joseph Cordova, and Levi Cordova. Honorary pallbearer will be Filbert Ray Chavez.
