Obituary for Salisbury

Woodford Whitney Salisbury, age 80, a former resident of Randolph County and more recently of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2:00 p.m., at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque. Born June 13, 1918 in Monterville, WV, he was the son of the late Winfield and Bertha Stalnaker Salisbury. On August 26, 1948 he was united in marriage to the former Leola Simmons who survives at Albuquerque. Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Mrs. Larry"June" Medearis of LaCenter, WA; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark Salisbury and wife, Joan of Albuquerque; one sister, Mrs. Frank"Lilly" Hight of Monterville, WV; one brother, Mason"Boone" Salisbury of Rainier, OR; two granddaughters, Mrs. Chad"Theresa" Durbec and Mrs. James"Anitra" Quist; one grandson, Luke Salisbury; two great-grandchildren, Camille Durbec and Zachariah Quist. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding Mr. Salisbury in death in addition to his parents were four sisters, Nellie Pescosolido, Helen Conrad, Iva Briggs and Wilma Currence; and one brother, Roland Salisbury. Mr. Salisbury was a coal miner and logger, retiring in 1980, and a veteran of the US Army, having served during WWII. He was a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, after 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, May 1, Mr. Salisbury will be moved to the Valley Head United Methodist Church for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Charlene Hamrick, Pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at the Stalnaker Cemetery in Monterville, WV. Full military rites will be accorded by the Tygart Valley Post #2647 VFW and the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Woodford Whitney Salisbury.
