Obituary for Milton

James Albert Milton passed away quietly on April 24, 1999. He was born November 7, 1910 in Lexington, KY, son of Hugh Melgone Milton I and Gorda Ovana Howard. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Fannie Lee Milton. They were married April 27, 1935 in Lexington, KY. Children and spouses are Larry Milton and wife, Suzanne of San Antonio, TX, Ovana and husband, Tyler Slocumb of Yokota Air Base, Japan, and Pamela and husband, Gary Felker of Westminster, CO. Grandchildren are James A. Milton of San Antonio, TX, Debra Gove of Caldwell, ID, Janis Glassini of Morenci, AZ, Amy Wilson of Spengdalem Air Base, Germany, Cynthia Hess of Wichita, KS, Alissa Swiger of Sulphur, LA, Belinda Slocumb of Marlborough, MA, and Christopher Slocumb of Albuquerque. There are also 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Col. Milton retired from the Air Force at the then Sandia AFB April 30, 1964 after 33 years of service. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps June 18, 1931 at Ft. Bliss, TX as a Corporal. He worked his way up through the enlisted and officer ranks in the Finance Department transferring to the Air Force when that became a separate service November 30, 1948 with the rank of temporary Colonel. After military retirement, he joined the staff of the Bank of New Mexico in Albuquerque, serving as Vice President and Senior Vice President in several capacities until retirement on November 30, 1975. James Milton will be fondly remembered by the Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque, The Rio Grande Woodcarvers' Association, The Knife and Fork Club, and the Petroleum Club of Albuquerque. He was also a member of Temple Lodge #6 AF & AM, Santa Fe Consistory Scottish Rite & The Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple. He was a very active member of Saint Mary's Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd. NE.
