Obituary for Haines

Dorrey Lee Haines, a resident of San Gabriel Manor, in Albuquerque, passed away at the age of 80. Mrs. Haines was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lee E. Haines, in 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Dorrey Lee West of Albuquerque; and her son, Lee E. Haines Jr. and wife, Thais D. Haines of Placitas, NM. Mrs. Haines is survived by five grandchildren, Amanda Lee West of Albuquerque, Stephen Lee Haines of San Diego, CA, Lorraine Michelle Raznik of San Diego, CA, Thomas G. Duffey of Lancaster, CA, and Paige E. Duffey of Escondido, CA; great-grandchildren are Brianne A. Raznik and Chloe S. Raznik of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dr. Benjamin H. Haines and wife, Julia of Las Cruces, NM; and cousin-in-law, Rita Wolters of Corrales, NM; one niece, Bili Kay Chatham of Scottsdale, AZ; four nephews, Benjamin H. Haines Jr. of Las Cruces, NM, Edward M. Haines of Las Cruces, NM, Brian D. Haines of Las Cruces, NM and Brandon H. Haines of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, NM. Dorrey was born in Hayden, AZ, May 19, 1919. She grew up in San Angelo, TX on a sheep ranch with her brother, step-father, Joe Skinner, and her mother. She graduated from Hockaday Girls' School in Dallas, TX. Dorrey got her pilot's license at the age of 20, and flew from their sheep ranch in San Angelo, to their ranch in Trinidad, CO, to the wool market in Albuquerque. Dorrey was an active member in the Albuquerque Junior League, and of the Presbyterian Women's Auxiliary. She was an avid and accomplished golfer, a charter member at Four Hills Country Club, and of the Four Hills Women's Golf Association. She had many dear friends she loved to play golf with. She loved competition, and won and finished well in many tournaments. She had a hole in one for her record. Dorrey was a gracious hostess, and loved to have parties; some lasting all night. She and her husband, Lee, would fix huevos rancheros for everyone. She loved to dance. Visitation will be Monday, June 7, 1999, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Services will be held Tuesday, June 8, 1999, 2:00 p.m., at the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. The Reverend Gerald White officiating.
