Obituary for Gideon

Claud L. Gideon left this world to be with his Lord on July 17, 1999. He was born on March 25, 1923 to Claud Lee and Della Burns Gideon on the family farm, six miles south of Hollis, OK. He attended the local country school where he had a perfect attendance record in both grade school and high school. In August of 1942, Claud Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 3 1/2 years in the Pacific. After his discharge in December of 1945, he enrolled at Oklahoma A&M College where he earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture. While at college, he participated in the R.O.T.C. program and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Reserve resulting in his being called up to serve in the Korean Conflict. After returning to New Mexico from Korea, Claud Jr. went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration. During the 1950's he worked for the International Development Services in Guatemala. After Guatemala, he worked for the F.H.A. until he retired. Mr. Gideon is survived by his former wife, Frances; daughters, Marjorie Olson of Oklahoma City, OK and Beverly Cormier of Grand Junction, CO; son, Robert; brother, Joe, both of Albuquerque; sister, Joy West of Pawtucket, RI; brothers, Jim and Jerry of Springdale and Prairie Grove, AK; and granddaughters, Allison and Julie Cormier and Samantha and Melonie Olson. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Tuesday, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Carl Dabbs Orville Davis, Frank Gilreath, Harold Goff, H.B. Horn and Harry Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Claud Jr.'s Sunday School Class.
