Obituary for Perea

Manuel R. Perea, 69, a resident of Edgewood for nine years, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 1999 in Albuquerque. Mr. Perea was born October 10, 1929 to Aldolfo and Mena (Carrillo) Perea in Bernalillo. He married Mary J. Chavez, June 23, 1951 in Bernalillo. Manuel was a Veteran of the Korean War and received a Purple Heart when he was injured, he also was member of The State Council of Boy Scouts. Manuel was a volunteer at the V.A. Hospital and a member of the American Legion Post 401 and a member of The Chosen Few. Mr. Perea was also a member of the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Edgewood. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary J. Perea; his sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel Jr. and Rosemary Perea, Adolfo Sonny and Rosemarie Perea, John Fitzgerald Perea and Michael Paul and Diana Perea; four daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine Perea, Elizabeth Ann and Jim Salas, Sandra Marie and David Sisneros, and Priscilla Jean Perea; one brother and sister-in-law, William T. and Esmeralda Perea; one sister, Romona Perea; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 26, 1999, 7:00 p.m., at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Edgewood. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 27, 1999, 10:00 a.m., with Father Tony Martinez officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Juanito Castillo, Fabian Salas, Nicholas Perea, Jeoy Salas, Andrew Salas, and John Perea Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Maria Castillo and Mielissa Salas. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.
