Obituary for Vinson

Neal L. Vinson, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Thursday, December 31, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Hollander Vinson of Albuquerque; sons, Carl W. Theisen and wife, Bernadette of Los Gatos, CA and Neal W. Vinson and wife, Nancy of Danville, CA; grandchildren, Glenn Vinson and wife, Eloisa of Mason, OH, Curt Theisen of San Francisco, CA; Kenneth Vinson of Aptos, CA, Kelly Theisen of Los Gatos, CA, Maureen Paolucci of Questa, CO, David Vinson of Dublin, CA and Christine Vinson of Sacramento, CA; and three great-grandchildren. Neal was born in Los Angeles, CA and was raised in Bisbee, AZ. He earned his Engineering degree from Carnegie-Mellon University. Prior to WWII, he worked with his father at L.W. Vinson & Son in Bisbee. During that time, he was elected to the Arizona State Legislature. He retired as a Major from the US Army after serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He had a 26 year career at Sandia National Labs. Neal held several patents and published a number of professional papers. He also served as a state representative in New Mexico in 1977. He continued his lifelong pursuit of education attending the University of California, University of New Mexico and Oxford University. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine E. Vinson; and son, Jon L. Vinson. Services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Health Care for The Homeless Project, 805 Tijeras Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
