Obituary for Vichi

Vincent P. Vichi, 89, a former resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999. He is survived by his son, Donald C. Vichi and wife, Vicki of Houston, TX; grandson, Eric Craig Vichi of Huntsville, TX; nieces, Alda Vichi Domenici, Thelma Domenici, Mary Stratman and husband, Carl, and Sister Marianella Domenici; all of Albuquerque, Rose Ann D. Hamberger of Washington, D.C., and Kathy Vichi Manus of California; nephews, Senator Pete V. Domenici of Washington D.C., and Pete Vichi and William Vichi, both of California, and sister-in-law, Theresa Bogard of Albuquerque. Mr. Vichi was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Bogard Vichi in 1993. Vince took over his father's family store at 3rd and Tijeras until being drafted during WWII. After the war, he became a salesman for Montezuma Wholesale Grocery, and then Kimball Grocery Company, and retired later from Consolidated Foods in the early 1970's. He had been a member of the Elks Lodge #461 since 1934. Vince was proud of his lifelong connection to Albuquerque and treasured his memories of the city's growth and development. After the war, Vince and Mildred lived in Tijeras Canyon for 30 years, then returned to the city after his retirement. Vince lived with his son and daughter-in-law in Houston, TX the last three years. Vince was lovingly known as the"Ojo Man" because of his hobby. Many of his beautiful Ojo de Dios creations are on display in businesses throughout Albuquerque and Houston, as well as the homes of all his family members and friends. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Richard McGowan S.J. officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
