Obituary for Montalvo

Our Mother, Cecelia M. Montalvo, age 72, fell asleep in the arms of Our Lord, Monday, February 8, 1999 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her love and husband of 47 years, Jose E. Montalvo; grandson, Shaun Michael Chavez; and her brother, Abran Maldonado. Before her illness she was a cursillista, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and sang in many church choirs throughout the city. She was a civil rights activist who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She was also a very active member of the Democratic party. She is survived by one son, Jose R. Montalvo and wife, Debbie; and four daughters, Mary Lou Tapia, Yolanda Montalvo, Maria (Lupe) Cummings and husband, Dave, and Cresille Hernandez and husband, Rosalio. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pauline Alderete, Antonia Lucero and Marcella Lucero; three brothers, Joe Silva, Edward Silva and David Silva; and her aunt, Maryann; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her pets, Snoopy, Rusty and Miko. Pallbearers are Patrick Montalvo, Sergio Torrez, Dave Cummings, Robert Maldonado, Patrick Silva and Robert Silva. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lawrence Miera, Michael Tapia and David Edward Lucero. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Edwin's Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd SW. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edwin's Church. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by family and Metropolitan Direct Services, 601 Mountain Rd. NW. The family will be at the home of Yolanda Montalvo.
