Romeo A. Ortiz, born in Pena Blanca on September 23, 1913, a resident of Bernalillo for 60 years, died Saturday, January 30, 1999; beloved husband of Emma (Concha); loving father of Rose Mary Torres and Joyce Ortiz of Bernalillo, Romeo Ortiz Jr. and wife, Amy of Albuquerque and Phillip Ortiz of Pena Blanca, NM; adored grandfather of ten grandchildren; devoted great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren; loving brother of Tillie Armijo of Apple Valley, California, Pearl Stredni and husband, Dan of Santa Clara, California, Darlene Armijo and husband, Lorenzo of Pena Blanca, Joe P. Ortiz and wife, Margaret of Bernalillo and Charles Ortiz of Jackson, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bessie Ortiz-Perea; and granddaughter, Roberta Tafuro; sisters, Hencha Montoya and Rose Daley; and brother, Mauricio Ortiz of Bernalillo. Romeo served as Sandoval County Treasurer, Sandoval County Clerk, Sandoval County School Superintendent and was Post Master of Bernalillo for 21 years. He served on the Bernalillo Board of Education for 12 years and was a current member and supervisor of Coronado Soil and Water Conservation District for the past 47 years. He also served as chairman of the Sandoval County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee for ten years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Bernalillo, with Fr. Virgil Furfaro, Celebrant. Interment will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Pena Blanca, NM. Pallbearers will be Andre Ortiz, Anthony Ortiz, Reuben Ortiz, Diego Ortiz, Gilbert Perea, Kenneth Perea, Thomas Perea, and Michael Torres. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming NE.
