Obituary for Hess

Ulysses Washington Hess, Lt. Col. U.S.A.F. Retired, age 88, and a resident of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, March 27, 1999. Ulysses"Colonel" was born March 9, 1911 in Joplin, MO, the son of John A. and Mary A. Hime Hess. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence of Albuquerque; his daughter, Pamala K. Hess-Mitchell and son-in-law, Mark Mitchell of Ruby, Alaska; his son, John Hess and daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Hess of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Mary Louise Mitchell, John A. Hess and wife, Michelle, Patrick B. Hess and fiancee, Denise Hunter, Deborah Eberhart and husband, Andrew; and two great-grandchildren, Hope Hess and Zachary Hess. Ulysses"Colonel" Hess was a graduate of Command Self War College. After retiring in Alamogordo from the Air Force with 26 years of service, he worked Civil Service for another 12 years. He later became one of the founders of the International Space Hall of Fame, where he acted as the Executive Director for a number of years. He spent 42 years living in Alamogordo before moving to Albuquerque in 1997. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 31, at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Paul Baca as Celebrant.
