Obituary for Tafoya

Tomas S. Tafoya, age 80, born in Abo Viejo on September 22, 1918, life his family to meet the Lord on April 22, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Irene Tafoya; four daughters, Dolores Tafoya, Gloria Zamora and husband, Michael, Diana Gonzales and husband, Joseph, and Edwina Tafoya and husband, Mario Giraudo; three sons, Tony Tafoya and wife, Debby, Mark Tafoya and wife, Jean, Joseph Tafoya and wife, Yvonne Aranda; 12 grandchildren, Amanda, Ramona, Lillian, Michelle, Andrew, Christina, Renee, Melinda, Desiree, Jared, Antonio, and Zoey; four great-grandchildren, Vincent Blue, Amadeus and Lucas. Also surviving are three sisters, Beatrice Tafoya, Corina Baca and Sophie Trujillo; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Tafoya was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Patrocina Tafoya; brothers, Antonio, Manuel and wife, Maria, Federico; and sister, Lillie. Tomas lived in Corrales for 14 years, where he and Irene raised their seven children. During this time he farmed his land and was Corrales Mayordomo de la Acequias for 18 years. He served his country during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69 and the Corrales Chapter of the V.F.W. Tomas was an active participant at the Corrales Senior Center and a devout member of the San Ysidro Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at Alameda Chapel Sunday evening, April 25, at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, 10:00 a.m., at San Ysidro Catholic Church with interment to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Tafoya, Alan Baca, Fidel Valdez, Ponce DeLeon, Martin Sisneros, Ramon Maestas. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Sanchez, David Valdez, and Lonny Valdez. Services entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th St. NW, Norbert R. Baldonado Jr., F.S.I.
