Obituary for James

Alice Crooks James. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Alice Crooks James of Roswell, who passed away April 21, 1999. Rev. Winston Presnall of First Presbyterian Church will conduct the service. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Alice was born November 5, 1910, in McCalla, Alabama, to John Marshall and Ora Moore Crooks. Her parents preceded her in death as well as two brothers, Chelse Crooks, Hugh Crooks; one sister, Elizabeth Mullins; one niece, Johnnie Nielsen; and one nephew, John Crooks. She married Harry James on July 11, 1931 in Taos, NM. He passed away in 1971. They lived in Albuquerque, Oklahoma City and Houston before moving to Roswell in 1943. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra James Matteucci and her husband, Ralph of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, Anna Maria Matteucci and James Lawrence Matteucci; and one great-grandchild, Chelsi Lee Matteucci, all of Roswell. She is also survived by a niece, Frances Haselton; great-nephew, Chad Nielsen and his wife, Marta; and great-niece, Tommie Nielson. Mrs. James was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star #10. Pallbearers will be Ronald H. Mayer, David McGee, Dr. John Henry, Don Burk, King Redd and Gene Lee. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bernard Johnston and Kenneth Barbe. Friends may make memorials to the charity of your choice or the Masonic Heritage Trust, PO Box 1512, Roswell, NM 88202-1512. The family will receive friends at 2904 Anna J. Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
