Joe C. Montoya Sr., 76, passed away Monday, April 19, 1999 in Albuquerque. He was born February 25, 1923 to Pedro R. and Julianita Luna Montoya in Socorro. He was a veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Rosita Baca Montoya of their home in Socorro; his children, Joe C. Montoya Jr. and wife, Janet, Anthony Montoya and wife, Bernadette, Lorraine Archuleta and husband, Ruben, Cecilia Sanchez and husband, Mike, and Julia Euart and husband, Norton, all of Socorro, Nick Montoya and wife, April of Los Lunas, Pete Montoya and wife, Maria of Rio Rancho, Mary North and husband, Paul of Taylor Ranch, and Barbara McLain and husband, Walter of Polvadera, NM; brothers, Cardenio and wife, Sarah of Edgewood, Arsenio of Los Lunas, and Albert and wife, Josie of Albuquerque; sisters, May Lipinski of Albuquerque, Lorencita Gonzales and husband, Juliano of Socorro and Angela Lucero and husband, Eufracio of San Antonio, NM; 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, April 21, 7:00 p.m., at the San Miguel Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 22, 11:30 a.m., at San Miguel with Father Jose Hernandez as Celebrant. Interment will be in Lemitar Cemetery with the Socorro DAV providing Military Honors. Pallbearers are Christopher Archuleta, Michael Sanchez Jr., Raymond E. Chavez, Melvin J. Gonzales Jr., Robert Olguin and Vincent Luna Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Socorro DAV, Chapter 24, 200 5th N., Socorro, NM 87801.
