Obituary for Chavez

George Benjamin Chavez, 70, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, left this world on Thursday, October 19, 2000 to join our Lord and those who preceded him. He is survived by his wife, Rose; a daughter, Antoinette Marquez and husband, Clarence; two sons, Greg Chavez and wife, Reina and Richard Chavez and wife, Lora; six grandchildren, Gregory Chavez, Raquel Walling, Alex, Montie and Jacquelyne Chavez and Marie Marquez; and a great-grandson, Anthony Walling; two brothers, Ernest Chavez and wife, Diane and Lawrence Chavez and wife, Cippie; four sisters, Helen Milligan and husband, Dan, Jean Alice Totzke, Jessica Rogers and husband, Robert and Viola Gutierrez and husband, Tom. He was a life long member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Chavez was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict with the Medical Company, 8th Calvary Regiment and was award the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze battle Stars, national Defense Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army of Occupation Medal and United National Service Medal. He was a member of VFW Post 6216. He passed away while serving as an Honor Guard at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. He was a volunteer with the Saint Joseph Heath Care System. Visitation will be held, Monday from 10:30 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass following at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gene Gries, O. Praem, Celebrant. Mr. Chavez will be laid to rest at his grandson's side, Albert David Marquez at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Joe Martinez, Dan Milligan, Clarence Marquez, John Milligan, Nestor Milligan and Gregory Chavez.
