Obituary for Sutton

Amanda Hopkins-Sutton, 69, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2000, in Rio Rancho. Mrs. Sutton moved to Rio Rancho from Chicago after retiring in 1995. She was born Amanda Hopkins on November 27, 1930 in Swainsboro, GA and moved at a young age to Chicago, where she later attended Hampton University. Amanda completed her education at Tuskeegee College, where she earned a degree in education. She then returned and taught Elementary School in Chicago for 33 years. She is survived by her husband Roy B. Sutton of Rio Rancho; daughters, Dr. Lauren Bonner of Seattle, Washington and Jeana Walton of Rio Rancho; step-son, Carson Phillips of Evanston, Ill. She also left a brother-in-law, Adolph Sutton; sisters-in-law, Mary, Lucille, and Elizabeth; a host of nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends throughout the United States. Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Vista Verde Mortuary, 4310 Sara Road, in Rio Rancho. Services for Mrs. Sutton will be held on Saturday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. in The Vista Verde Chapel. Entombment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. (505) 892-9920.
