Obituary for Schulte

John Walter Schulte, age 80, of Las Cruces, died Friday, July 7, 2000 at Mesilla Valley Hospice La Posada. He was born August 28, 1919 in Raton, and retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He retired to the Chama area and had been a Las Cruces resident for the past 16 years. Mr. Schulte was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Los Alamos, Chama and Las Cruces. He was also a member of the local Horse Shoe Pitchers Assoc. Survivors include his wife, Marie Lorraine Schulte of the family home; son, Fred Schulte and his wife, Sharon of Austin, TX and their children, Curtis Schulte of OskKosh, WI, Gretchen Olguin and husband, Matthew of Cedar Park, TX; step-sons, Mark Hartshorne and wife, Trina of Las Cruces and their daughter, Taylor, Michael Hartshorne and wife, Lida of Albuquerque, Joseph Hartshorne and wife, Sonia of Rociada, NM and their children, Eustace and Sergio, Jeffrey Hartshorne of Las Cruces; step-grandson, David Hartshorne of Albuquerque; brothers, Albert Schulte and wife, Erma of Raton, Steven Schulte and wife, Betty of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Steven and Kristen Olguin of Cedar Park, TX. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, July 13, 2000, 9:00 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. John Tickle celebrating. A second Memorial Mass is planned for the following day, Friday, July 14, 2000, 1:30 p.m., at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Chama, NM, with Fr. Florian Renaud, celebrating. The rite of commital will follow at the Chama Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88001.
