Obituary for Gerk

Virginia Lee Gerk, 74, died at her home in San Antonio, New Mexico after a brief bout with recurring cancer. Virginia Lee Wooten was born in Trinidad, Colorado on March 28, 1926. She married Ralph Gerk on October 2, 1943. They spent many years making their living at a dairy farm north of Storrie Lake near Las Vegas, New Mexico. In 1961, they moved to Albuquerque, where they both were employed by Presbyterian Hospital until their retirement. Ralph Gerk passed away on April 9, 1990. Virginia moved to San Antionio, New Mexico in 1991, where she had resided ever since. Virginia Gerk is survived by four children, Betty Harris and husband, Herb of Santa Fe, Bill Gerk and wife, Lois of San Antonio, NM, Ray Gerk and wife, Michelle of Kennewick, WA, John Gerk and wife, Laurise of La Mesa, CA; seven grandchildren and eight-great-grandchildren; her brother, Clayton Wooten and wife, Sarah of Las Cruces, NM, as well as many nieces and nephews on both the Gerk and Wooten sides of the family. A Memorial service to celebrate the full and rich lives of both Ralph and Virginia will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, where they are both interred. Anyone who would like to share favorite memories of Ralph and Virginia is invited to do so at that time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Socorro General Hospital Hospice, P.O.
