Obituary for Hammock

Maxine Clariece Hammock, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 67 years, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2000, at Sandia Springs Assisted Living Facility. Her husband, Alton, and her daughter, Loraine were at her side. Maxine is survived by Alton, her husband of 64 years; her son, Glen; and her daughter, Loraine. Other survivors include granddaughters, Gloria Sands, Patricia Littell, and Sally Garcia; two great-granddaughters, Jesica Sands and Vanesa Garcia; one great-great-granddaughter, Samantha Rodgers; brothers, Walter, Wayne, Hilton and Ellis Wilson and their families; sister, Lola Davis; sister-in-law, Lillian. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and by her brother, Lloyd Wilson. Maxine was born on May 30, 1916 in Meeker, CO to Blair and Elsie Wilson. She grew up on a ranch in Meeker and lived there until the family moved to Albuquerque in 1933. Maxine graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1934. She married Alton Hammock in 1936 and was a homemaker for 64 years. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and working in her yard. Friends looked forward to Maxine's Christmas boxes filled with her homemade canned pears and peaches, bread, cookies, and candies. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Paul Gleason officiating. Entombment will follow at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be John Harding, Jimmie Yeats, Charles Valerio, Cervando Molinar, Scott Porter and Sal Esparza. Honorary pallbearers will be La Vern Chapman and David Lewis. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Monday, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Maxine to Sandia Hospice, 4775 Indian School Rd. NE, Suite 310, 87110, the UNM/Cancer Research and Treatment Center, 900 Camino de Salud NE 87131, or to the Alzheimer's Association, New Mexico Chapter, 1330 San Pedro NE, Suite 205, 87110. The family would like to thank Sandia Hospice, especially Scott Porter and David Lewis; Sandia Springs Assisted Living Facility and the numerous nurses, caregivers, kitchen staff and others who helped to make Maxine's final days more comfortable.
