Howard B. Bouton died on May 23, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Berwyn, Illinois on October 26, 1926 to Archibald and Dorothy Baldwin Bouton. He was a descendent of John Bouton, a French Hugueno refugee who settled in Connecticut in 1635. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucille Sandy Bouton, whom he met in the first grade. Also surviving are two daughters, Lindsey Bouton and Tracey (Dean) Patino, both of Naperville, IL; two sons, Kenneth of Western Springs, IL and Christopher (Kerry Keller) Bouton of Lombard, IL. There are seven grandchildren, Howard, Thomas and John Bouton of Hinsdale, IL, Bradley Christoff and Ryan, Samantha and Amanda Pation of Naperville, IL; his sister, Laurel (Daniel) Sammons of Tucson, AZ also survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until his discharge as an infantry sergeant in 1946. His Army career was in the South Pacific and Japan. He attended Ripon College in Wisconsin and Morton College in Illinois. He earned Bachelor and Master's degrees from the University of Wyoming. In 1950, he joined the First National Bank of Chicago as a messenger boy and retired as a Vice-President in 1984. At various times he lectured on banking and investment subjects at DePaul University and the American Institute of Banking in Chicago. Before he moved to Albuquerque in 1985, he was instrumental in the organization of the town of Burr Ridge, Illinois, his former hometown. In Albuquerque he was a counselor at SCORE and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He will be remembered--among other things--for his broad sense of humor, often directed at himself. He was happiest amongst his friends and family. He spent many quiet hours reading and studying in his library of several hundred books. He pursued some quirky hobbies, including vexillology (flags), putting $2 bills into circulation, black holes, and coddling his 1975 Pontiac convertible. Cremation has taken place. A family memorial service is planned for a later date. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Parkinson's Foundation.
