Obituary for Lucero

Mr. Jose Samuel (Sam) Lucero, 72, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 2, 2000. Mr. Lucero is survived by his five children, Carlotta Ortiz and husband, Louie, Mr. and Ms. Samuel Lucero Jr., Frank E. Lucero and wife, JoAnne, Carmen Lucero and Alberta Lucero; six grandchildren, Frank E. Lucero Jr., Sam J. Lucero III, Alyssa Victoria Gallegos, Benjamin Ross Ortiz, Clara Angel Torres and Angeline Renee Ortiz; the mother of his children, Victoria Lucero; his beloved companion, Martha Lopez; brothers, Ernest Lucero, Paul Quintana and wife, Ruby, and Jerry Lopez; sisters, Dora Martinez, Irene Duran, Bertha Coca, Elsie Velasquez and Lucy Lopez. Mr. Lucero was preceded in death by his parents, Joaquin and Francesquita; his brothers, Pat Lucero and Joaquin Lopez; and his sister, Margaret Marquez. Mr. Lucero was a member of the Catholic Church, a veteran of U.S. Army and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. He was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1988. All of his grandchildren were the light of his life. A visitation will be Friday evening in the St. Anne Church, 1400 Arenal SW, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. Final visitation will be Saturday morning, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., in the church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Father Thomas Mayefske, Celebrant. Private disposition will take place. Pallbearers will be Frank E. Lucero Jr., Sam Lucero III, Steve Lucero, Alfonso Sanchez, Fernando Ebell and Aldolph G. Romero Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Louie Ortiz, Benjamin Ortiz, Simon Lucero, Lonnie Quintana and Pat Garcia. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, in charge of arrangements.
