Obituary for Barrett

Esther Eileen Eberly Barrett died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at SunBridge Mission Manor in Albuquerque. She is survived by her son, Bill and wife, Betty Barrett of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Barbara and husband, John Yip of Albuquerque; sister, Carol Stremming of Evansville, IN; and granddaughters, Cynthia, Susan, Alicia, and Beth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett E. Barrett on January 4, 1978; two sisters, Ila Lindsay and Eula Tucker; and one brother, Lawrence Eberly. Eileen graduated from Lawton High School and attended Morningside College in Sioux City for two years. She participated in music groups and girls' basketball and softball teams. She married her high school sweetheart, Emmett E. Barrett on September 17, 1929. Eileen taught Sunday school, sang in church choirs, served as president of the Missionary Society and Federated Women's Club and she taught private piano lessons. In Arizona, she volunteered at Sun Valley Lodge and served as president of 40-45ers group in United Church of Sun City. She studied oil painting and tutored in reading. She and Emmett traveled extensively. Eileen loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker. A family graveside memorial service will be held this summer at Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City, IA.
