Obituary for Tarman

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday February 22, 2000

Annabelle Mae Tarman, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, canine aficionado and friend to many, died February 16, 2000. Annabelle was born in Las Animas, Colorado, on May 9, 1926. She lived her early years in Paonia, Colorado, with her mother and father, Jessie and Olen C."Jack" Tarman; her sister, Phyllis; and her beloved dog, Pat. The family moved to Denver in 1943 and Annabelle graduated from Edgewater High School in 1944. She graduated from Mercy Hospital Nursing School in 1946 and became a Sister of Mercy, ministering to many, as she continued to do throughout her life. She furthered her nursing career while she was a Sister of Mercy, earning her registered nurse anesthetist certification. Her life changed in 1950 when she began working in private hospital nursing at National Jewish Hospital in Denver. She also held positions at Mercy Hospital and Colorado General Hospital before moving to Albuquerque in the early 1970's. She worked as a nurse anesthetist at Presbyterian Hospital and other hospitals until her retirement in 1992. Annabelle was a very active member of the Rio Grande Kennel Club and showed her three Yorkshire Terriers,"Nemo","Sunny" and"Archie." Nemo was officially recorded a champion by the American Kennel Club in 1995. Annabelle donated her body to the University of New Mexico Medical School for research purposes. She requested that no memorial or service be held. However, remembrance contributions may be made to a dog charity, a medical research foundation or by planning a tree for love. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Tarman Dodd of Denver; and her niece, D'Anne Dodd Huot of Northridge, CA; and her three dogs. Over 30 people associated with the Rio Grande Kennel Club have said they will provide homes for Annabelle's Yorkies. The Dodd/Huot family appreciates all the love and concern expressed by Annabelle's many, many friends.
