Eleanor Marietta King, the first Dean of the College of Nursing at UNM in Albuquerque, first Dean of the College of Nursing at Western State College in Danbury, Connecticut. Highly regarded in the fields of nursing education and public health. Born in St. Paul, MN on October 29, 1907, died in Albuquerque on February 16, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Prof. and Mrs. James Sherman King of Hamline University in St. Paul. She graduated from Hamline and later from the Yale University School of Nursing and studied further at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Dean King is the sister of Mildred King Walser and Edna King Vander Wagen of Albuquerque; the aunt of Stanley Penn, James Walser, and Mary Falzone, also several great nieces and nephews.
