Obituary for Stagg

Dr. Harry Stagg, 101, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Sunday, February 6, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Tope and husband, Dwight and Marcia Cantrell, both of Albuquerque; grandsons, Rock Tope and wife, Debbie, James Cantrell, Stephen Cantrell and wife, Beth, Tom Cantrell and wife, Geri, all of Albuquerque, Chris Tope and wife, Dee of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jack Cantrell and wife, Laura of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Carol Ramel and husband, Greg of Alamogordo; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Basil Stagg of Ball, LA. Dr. Stagg was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Rock Stagg in 1999. He was the Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Gallup from 1925 to 1938; was Executive Director of the Baptist Convention of NM from 1938-1968, and was the Executive Director Emeritus; was the driving force behind the establishment of Glorieta Baptist Assembly; was a member of the First Baptist Church of Albuquerque since 1938; was a member of the Rotary International since 1927; was a past District Governor, a Paul Harris Fellow and a Clinton Anderson Fellow; was a past member of the American Legion; was a member of the D.A.V.; served as District Chaplain for V.F.W.; and received the French Legion Medal of Honor. Services will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 101 Broadway NE, Joseph B. Underwood officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Stephen Cantrell, Tom Cantrell, Rock Tope, Chris Tope, Aaron Coffey and Jack Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Tope, Austin Cantrell, James Cantrell, Art Wood, Bill Machen, Dr. Travis Ferguson, H.B. Horn, Truett Sheriff, Dwight Tope and Greg Ramel. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and the casket will be open at the church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Noonday Ministries, P.O.
