Obituary for Leyva

Fred: The Lord called on Fred and took him on Wednesday, March 15th. He is survived by his sons, Michael and wife, Carolyn Leyva and Mark Leyva; their mother and his former wife, Peggy; grandchildren, Melanie Cooper and Melissa Avritt; great-grandchildren, Rivkah and Mikayla Cooper his mother, Consuelo (Connie) Leyva; his sister, Mary Lou Burke; two brothers, Pete and wife, Mary Lou Leyva and Larry and wife, Gini Leyva; nephews, Steven Christakis, Tim and wife, Margaret Ann Leyva, Chris Leyva, Jason Leyva; great-nephews, Joseph Leyva, Marcus Martinez and Nicklaus Lewis; nieces, Lisa, Kimberly and Melissa Leyva, Stephanie Christakis; great-nieces, Brittaney Kestler, Lydia Gonzales and Andreana Muriel; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Leyva was preceded in death by his father, Pedro B. Leyva; and sister, Lydia Levya. Fred was born on August 11, 1939. He attended Valley High School, where he was active in football, basketball and baseball, he graduated in 1958. He retired from the City and continued to work at San Felipe Casino and Sherwin Williams. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was a fun loving person, always teasing and laughing. His family and friends will greatly miss him. A Rosary will be recited on Monday evening, 7:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Will Gonzales, Vince Garcia, Stephen Christakis, Tim Leyva, David Valdez and Joe Salazar. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his friends at San Felipe Casino and Sherwin Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity.
