Martha E. Garcia, 56, a longtime Vaughn, NM resident, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Mrs. Garcia was born March 20, 1944 in Mosquero, NM to the home of Flugencio Baca and the former Monica Martinez. She was reared at Pastura and Vaughn, where she attended school. She married Luperto Garcia on June 9, 1969 in Santa Rosa. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Vaughn, NM. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Mike Baca in 1988; and an infant sister, Pauline Baca. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Survivors include her husband, Luperto Garcia of the home in Vaughn; two sons, Jessie L. Garcia and fiancee, Venus of Albuquerque, Eric Garcia of Vaughn; two brothers, Benjy Baca and Abenacio Baca of Vaughn, and Helen B. Garcia of Tucumcari. Also surviving are two grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, from St. Mary's Parish in Vaughn. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2000, with Father Patrick Duffy, Celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Vaughn. Pallbearers will be Jerry Baca, Tommy Apodaca, Michael Baca, Edward Baca, Derrick Castillo, Jacob Tenorio, and Lee Garcia. Honorary bearers will be Artie Garcia, Lance Ortiz, and Jason Tenorio. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Chavez Funeral Home, 923 South Third Street, Santa Rosa, NM, (505) 472-3369.
