Obituary for Critchfield

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday May 09, 2000

Jean Critchfield passed away quietly on May 6, 2000 with family at her side. She and her husband, Charles came to Los Alamos in 1943 to participate in the Manhattan Project during World War II. She is survived by her four children, Lewis and wife, Lili, Robert, Barbara Chang and husband, Bill, Douglas and wife, Judy; eight grandchildren, Yasmin, Tanya, Elizabeth, Valerie, Heidi, Douglas, Lucas, and Jason; and three great grandchildren, Derek, LeAnne, and Kodi. Jean leaves behind many dear friends, including the congregations of both the Unitarian Church and United Church of Los Alamos, and her colleagues in the various clubs and volunteer organizations in which she was active. Her radiant smile, energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm will be sorely missed. These traits and her unfailing optimism and determination whether climbing the East Face of Long's Peak, Colorado or in meeting the challenges of growing old, will continue to be a guide and model for all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Los Alamos Neighborhood Action Committee, P.O. Box 726, Los Alamos, NM 87544. A Memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos at a date to be announced.
