Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 31, 2000

Betty Joyce McDevitt, 76, passed away on the morning of Thursday, March 29, 2000, from a 15-month battle with lung cancer. Born Bette J. Mann on November 14, 1923 to Lawrence C. and Chole V. Mann of Piggott, Arkansas, she was the second of four children. Bette made her way through the Depression, working tirelessly for the benefit of her widowed mother's family. She found success later in the employ of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where she sold dancing contracts to 39 out of her first 40 customers. There she also met her future husband, Jack, whom she married in 1955. She became a mother of two boys, Patrick and Kevin, in 1957 and 1958, respectively. Bette was a model mother, who adored her family and showered them throughout her life with unselfish love, devotion and support. She was cherished by everyone whose lives she touched and our lives will be greatly diminished without her. She is survived by her husband of 44 years; her two sons; her brother, Robert Mann; her sister, Barbara Roberts; and three grandchildren, Wyatt, Garrett and Walker. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 31, 2000, 12:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
