Frances Lee Counterman, 90, a resident of Rio Rancho, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2000. She was born in 1909 in Middletown, Kansas. Frances married Roy Counterman in Fredonia, Kansas in 1934, and lived in Independence, KS until moving to Salida, CO in 1956. Her husband, Roy, preceded her in death in 1960. In Salida, Frances worked at Salida Hospital and was very active in St. Joseph's Catholic Parish and participated in several ecumenical groups. Following three years living near relatives in Fredonia, Frances moved to Rio Rancho in 1994 and soon became involved in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Frances will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Betty Drobnick and her husband, Will of Rio Rancho and Patti Wright and her husband, Jim of Hutchinson, KS. Frances took pride in her four granddaughters and their families, Deborah and Neil Farnholtz, and sons, Jordan and Jaxson of Rio Rancho, Rebecca and David Baker, and daughters, Antonia and Jessen of Craig, CO, Nathania and Jim Hinkle, and son, Tyler of Pensacola, FL, and Sarah and Brian Lewis of Denver, CO. Frances was also a caring step-grandmother of John, Karen, Kevin, Michelle and Kenneth Wright. Glendoria Brindle and Glossie Short of Fredonia, KS are her surviving sisters. The visitation will take place today, Sunday, January 30, 2000, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the Rosary being prayed and memories shared at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Monday, January 31, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Frances will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Salida, CO on Thursday following a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Throughout her life, Frances was a prayer warrior and a caring minister to the poor and those in need.
