Obituary for Benson

John J. (Jack) Benson, P.E., 76, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, July 24, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernadette C. Benson of the family home, sons, John A. Benson and wife, M. Joann of Overland Park, KS and Paul J. Benson and wife, Suzanne T. of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Lisa M. Benson of Tempe AZ, Lori L. Delorit and husband, Aaron D. of Roeland Park, KS, Amy N. Benson of Lenexa, KS, and Sarah M. Benson of Albuquerque. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 30, 1924. Jack, as he was called by all of his friends and those who knew him, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and fought in World War II. He served with the fighting forces in Europe and the occupation forces in Japan. In 1956, he moved his family from Philadelphia to Albuquerque and went to work for Sandia National Laboratories as a Quality Assurance Engineer. He was a Professional Engineer for over 40 years. Jack retired from Sandia Labs in 1987, after 31 years of service. He supported the activities of St. Pius X High School, where his sons graduated. For up to 35 years, he was a member of numerous organizations, including Sandia Dog Obedience Club, NM Steward Assoc., Sandia Skeet Club, Kirtland AFB Officers Club, Coronado Club at Kirtland, Rio Grande Kennel Club, Thunderbird Travel Trailer Club, and the Central New Mexico Brittany Club. Jack raised Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and a champion Brittany. Rosary will be recited Thursday, July 27, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Deacon Ubaldo Chavez reciting. Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 28, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Parish, 833 Arizona St. SE, with Father Tom Mayefske, Celebrant. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Mileshosky, Kenneth Thompson, William R. Lincoln, Paul J. Benson, Mayo Jeter, Emerson Goff, Julio Pardo, and Edward Lybarger. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Thursday, July 27, 2000, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. of NM, 525 San Pedro NE, #101, 87108 or to the National Kidney Assoc., 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
