Obituary for Jones

William Thomas Jones, of Alto, New Mexico, passed away March 11, 2000 in Albuquerque. He was born on September 7, 1918 in Ft. Davis, Texas, later moving with his family to El Paso. He graduated from Austin High School, where he participated in sports and was co-captain of the football team. He attended Texas Western College (now UTEP) and later enlisted in the Air Force, served three years, and returned to Texas Western to complete his BBA degree. He married Frances Marie Autry in 1957, and she and their four children survive him, Kyle and wife, Tina of Albuquerque, Dr. Tobin Jones of Virginia, Karen and husband, Wayne Pauley of Los Angeles, and Jonel Jones of Santa Fe; grandchildren are Anthony Jones of Albuquerque and Erika Rae Pauley of Los Angeles, CA. Other surviving family members include his brother, Hudnel Jones of El Paso and nephew, Hudnel Jones III. Also niece, Jonel Jorgensen of Sacramento, CA. Bill and Frances, and their children lived in Alaska 18 years, where he was employed with Atlantic Richfield Company in Anchorage and Kenai. He retired in 1985 and moved to Ft. Davis, Texas and 1986 to Ruidoso. He spent his last ten years establishing a non-profit in Roswell called People Care, Inc. through his efforts, homes were provided for mentally ill adults who needed safe, supervised housing and care. He was a member of NAMI, and also served on the Board of Directors of Willow Terrace, Inc. which provides affordable apartments in Roswell for persons with disabilities. Bill enjoyed playing golf at Alto and Cree Meadows and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ruidoso. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2000, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Ruidoso. Bill's ashes will be buried on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the family plot in Ft. Davis, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be sent to People Care, Inc., 800 N.
