Obituary for Shriver

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 12, 2000

Viola H. Shriver, 89, passed away February 18, 2000, following a brief illness. She moved to Albuquerque from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1945, with her husband, Al, who was in the jewelry and watch repair business. From 1948 through 1963, Vi held the position of executive secretary to a succession of manager of the Albuquerque Hilton Hotel. She next worked as a legal secretary for several local law firms, including Sutin, Thayer & Browne. The Shrivers were married for over 50 years until Al's death in 1986. They had no children, but Vi was very close to her numerous nieces and nephews. She was an avid correspondent, and kept in close touch with her extended family in Ohio, Florida, and California. Her relatives and her many friends in Albuquerque and elsewhere will miss her sharp mind, her quick wit, and her fierce independence. Following Vi's wishes, cremation has taken place, and no memorial service is planned.
