Florence Oliver died peacefully at home in Rio Rancho, on August 20 following a brief illness. She was born as Florence Almira Damoth on September 14, 1907 in Reed City, Michigan. As a young adult, Florence lived most of her life in Denver, Colorado and then Santa Fe and even Espanola. She moved to Trail, Oregon in the early 1960s and stayed there until she returned to New Mexico with her daughter, Phyllis Brashar in 1994. While living in Trail, Oregon, Florence married her third husband and one true love, Ken Oliver in August of 1970. He died about a year later, but her time with Ken was said to have been the happiest of her long life. She was active in many local artist clubs and she became an accomplished painter. She loved to cook and for a few years in the late 1960s, she operated and ran a small cafe,"The Shack", near the Rogue River in Shady Cove, Oregon. Other than painting, her favorite hobby was fishing for salmon and trout in the coastal rivers of southern Oregon. Florence was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Brashar; and her sister, Arlee Ragsdale. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her three grandchildren and their families, Cliff and Larrea Brashar of Albuquerque, Gary and Lynn Brashar of Trinidad, CO, and Lynda Brashar of San Juan Pueblo, NM. Florence had true class, she loved life, she lived a full life, and she made true friends out of those she met along the way. If you knew her, your life was richer for the experience. Many thanks to all who cared for her as her life came to an end. The family is particularly grateful to the caring staff and her friends at Acantilado Vista in Rio Rancho.
