Obituary for Grodner

Ceil Silverman Grodner passed away on Saturday, August 26, at her home. She was born in Norwich, Connecticut, on August 18, 1913, the daughter of the late Alec and Lena Silverman. Beloved wife of Dr. Milton Grodner; mother of sons, Brian and wife, Jean, Richard and wife, Irene, Robert and wife, Patty, all of Albuquerque; and daughters, Lauren Babus and husband, Lowell of Mahwah, New Jersey, and Terri Mendoza and husband, Victor of Framingham, Massachusetts; grandmother to Jeremy, Jamie, Nicki, Shana, Corey, Kelsey, Alex, and Jonathan; sister of Selma Swatsburg and husband, Harry of Norwich, Connecticut. Ceil was predeceased by her brother, Calvin Silverman, and her grandson, Jason Grodner. She graduated from the Norwich Free Academy and Connecticut College for Women in New London. Her business career included positions as the personnel manager at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, and at the Sattlers Department Store in Buffalo, New York. Ceil founded the largest babysitting service in New York State. She operated her agency for over 30 years from her home in Mt. Vernon, New York, so that she could be at home with her five children. Ceil had many interests and special talents. She was an accomplished pianist and was fluent in Hebrew, German, Latin, and French. She was very active in community, charitable, and religious organizations. She demonstrated her dedication and support for the Hadassah Women's Organization by becoming a Life-Member, holding numerous executive positions, and achieving Founders status. A resident of New Mexico for the past 21 years, she was an active member of Congregation B'Nai Israel and served on the editorial staff of the monthly newsletter. This past December, Ceil and Milton had a celebration of their"60" wedding anniversary with their family and many of their friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah, 808 Turner Drive, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87123. Services will be held Monday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation B'Nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Road NE. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial Services will be held at the family home on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Ceil was a remarkable woman who will be greatly missed by her family and by all who knew her.
