Obituary for Days

Helen M. Days, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 3-1/2 years, died Friday, December 1, 2000, in her home at Vista Del Rio Retirement Community. She was born to Eugene and Emma Keizer Vatcher on January 27, 1916 in Saugus, MA. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Sam) Sherman and husband, Dr. Frederick of Albuquerque; son, James J. Delahanty, Jr. and wife, Kate Lennon of Massachusetts; and grandchildren, Dr. Kristen K. Sherman of San Francisco, CA, F. James Sherman of London, Jill Delahanty Parker and husband, Nick of Waltham, MA and James W. Delahanty of Boston, MA. Helen graduated from the McLean Hospital School of Nursing in Belmont, MA in 1940. After working as a psychiatric nurse, she joined the Army Nurse Corps, serving as a 2nd Lieutenant during WWII. She married James J. Delahanty in 1943 and raised her family in Newton Highlands, MA. She worked for and retired from the American Red Cross in Boston. After being widowed in 1974, she married William J. Days and enjoyed living in St. Croix, USVI and N. Myrtle Beach, SC. She was predeceased by her husband in 1995. She is survived by her caring second family; Frank Mays of MA, Patricia Days Battleman and husband, Ron of VA, Paula Days Misci and husband, William of MA, and Pamela Days Parsons of CT; and grandchildren, Emma Days, Terri Parsons, Joseph Parsons, Craig Parsons, Jacqueline Misci and Geoffrey Misci. Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Violet Vatcher and Harriet McKay; and brothers, Robert, James, Walter and Warren Vatcher. Her surviving siblings are Gertrude Goossens and husband, Julian, Calvin Vatcher and wife, Claire, Marjorie Joan Vatcher, all of Saugus, MA, and Richard Vatcher and wife, Sharon of NC; sisters-in-law, Nell Vatcher of NC and Joan Vatcher of CA; dear friend and sister-in-law, Frances Vatcher of SC; and many nieces and nephews. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 6 at 3:00 p.m., at Vista Del Rio, 1620 Indian School Rd. NE. Interment of cremains will take place in Massachusetts at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandia Hospice, 4725 Indian School Rd. NE, Suite 100, 87110.
