Obituary for Oakeley

L. JoAnn Oakeley, 40, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died in an automobile accident near Sweetwater, Texas on Monday, June 26, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Arthur Oakeley; son, Adrian James Oakeley; mother, Virginia Barbero, all of Albuquerque; special sister, Georgia Barbero of Albuquerque; brothers, Andrew Baca and wife, Marianne of Albuquerque, Gilbert Barbero and wife, Angie of Santa Fe; sisters, Virginia Nava and Evelyn Franco and husband, Thomas, all of Santa Fe; special aunt and uncle, Linda and Tony Garcia of Alamogordo; uncle, Ernesto Granados and wife, aunt, Helen; mother-in-law, Barbara Chambliss and husband, Paul of Lubbock, TX; brothers-in-law, Dwayne Oakeley and wife, Sherri of Lubbock, TX, Maj. Brian Oakeley and wife, Dorothy of Washington, DC; sisters-in-law, Brenda Trevino and husband, Eddie and Deborah DeLuna and husband, Robert, all of Lubbock, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Jose Barbero in 1983. JoAnn was a member of Sandia Baptist Church. She was a former member of Temple Baptist Church where she served as a leader and past director for AWANA Children's Ministry, Chapter 3576. She was a past member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, Local 1564. For the past five years she was employed as a secretary with French Mortuary. JoAnn had an abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She will be remembered for her warm and loving spirit. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Blvd NE, with Dr. Robert Butler, Rev. J. Curtis Goldman, Rev. Fred Gurule and Rev. Paul Chambliss, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. Pallbearers will include, Joseph M. Baca, Andres A. Baca, David Garcia, Dwayne Oakeley, Maj. Brian Oakeley and Eddie Trevino. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd NE, Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
