Obituary for Sanchez

Mrs. Dorothy M. Sanchez, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1992 crossed over to be with our Lord on October 13, 2000 after a long battle due to a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving family at home. Mrs. Sanchez is the beloved wife of 57 years to Mr. Tony Sanchez Sr., USAF retired; her daughters, Melissa Lueras, Bernice Maestas and Elizabeth Chrane; sons, Tony M. Sanchez Jr. USAF retired and wife, Gerda, of Germany, Gregory and Rita of San Antonio, New Mexico, Don and wife, Kelly, Albert and Robert Sanchez; daughter-in-law, Helen Rose; a sister, Juanita Martin; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, John B. Martinez and Gabrelita; sisters, Rose Pettrigrew and Mary Honachi; brothers, John B. Martinez Jr., Modesto, Raymond and Feliz; her sons, Joe and Leo, both served in the U.S. Army. Dorothy met and married her husband in 1944, while at the train station in Albuquerque. She was picking up luggage for her sister, Rose, who had arrived the day before from Washington State. Tony was home on a 30 day leave from the U.S. Marines from the South Pacific. They were married on June 5, 1944 and after a year returned to the Pacific. After 4 years he was discharged and joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1963 retired from the Air Force and went to work for the City of Albuquerque as an airport police. Dorothy was very proud of her flower garden and had the most beautiful roses in the neighborhood. Dorothy went to work for Doctor and Joyce Hayes and after 30 years all three retired. After their retirement she and her husband traveled to visit her sister, Rose Pettigre, nieces and nephews in Arkansas and also traveled to Germany, Kansas, Arizona, California and other cities on D.A.V., American Legion and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Reunion and Conventions. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all their grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was well taken care of by her daughters and sons during her illness. Mrs. Sanchez was a Member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at St. Theresa Little Flower Catholic Church, 300 Mildred NW with visitation at the Church after 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at twelve noon at St. Theresa Church with final viewing at the church after 11:30 a.m. Father John Plans will celebrate the Mass and recite the Rosary. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Moses Archuleta, Troy Cowan, Greg Sanchez, Don Sanchez, Stanley Saavedra and Joe Roybal. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd SW, in charge of the arrangements.
